The Kargil war

        The Kargil war

The year was 1999, some Pakistani soldiers infiltrated indian territory. And the Indian defence forces retaliated bravely.
Soon, a full - fledged war ensued between india and pakistan. The war is now known as the Kargil war.
One of the most famous war heroes of the Kargil war was captain Vikram Batra. Recently a film has made on him name shersaah.
Kargil war in detail
Story begins on 3rd May 1999. in a small village in batalik region there was shepherd tashi namgyal.
He had lost his yak so he went to look for his yak with a friend. While looking through the binoculars, he saw that same armed men digging bankers. He found it quite fishy.
He got suspicious that those people were from the other side of loc. So he went to the nearest post of the Indian army to inform.
Indian army checked this information and found that the information was correct but this was not minor intrusion but this was a well planned attack by Pakistan army.
Instrusion were reported in dras  kaksar and mushkoh sectors.
Overall, they had occupied more than 130 posts. And their aim was to block the critically important national highway NH-1 and by blocking it. They could have cut off kashmir from ladakh.
The code name of this operation was operation badr.
If we look at this action from the perspective of international relations, this was a direct breach of the 1972 Simla agreement. According to this agreement both neighbouring  countries had agreed to never violate the LOC.
And in case of any issues between India and Pakistan Start then try to solve that peacefully through bilateral approach.
But unfortunately thing was that only a
Few months before the instructions in Feb 1999, the former Indian P.M atal Bihari Vajpayee had made a journey to lahore declaration as well. along with the former Pakistan P.M Nawaz Sharif.
This was in a way, a monumental effort by the formal pm atal Bihari Vajpayee to establish peace between India and Pakistan.
Only, 3 months after it. This large scale instrusion by Pakistan soldiers, but any way, to retaliate against this.  indian army launched counterattack that was given the code name operation vijay(victory).
Thousand of army troops were mobilized and sent to Kargil sector. Cheif of army was general ved Parkash malik.
The indian airforce played a very crucial role. On 26th May , they launched the operation safed sagar ( white sea).
That aimed at driving out the Pakistani troops from the indian territory. Traditionally, whenever air-power is used in a conflict. It is considered that all war has been declared. It was the first time that India had deployed air-power in such an airforce had also planned that they would cross the LOC into pakistan and bomb a few targets specially terrorist Targeted area.
But pm atal Bihari Vajpayee was completely against this. He had firmly order that loc should not be crossed. And there is a very interesting diplomatic reason for it. Matter was like whenever any two countries go on war against each other, and when look at the war from third perspective, it becomes quite difficult to judge who is right and who is wrong.
Let take an example when we watch the war between Israel and Palestine or war between Azarbejhan and Armenia, it becomes difficult for us to know or say who is the right and who is right and who is wrong. Because often both sides have arguments to justify themselves.
Similarly in the Kargil war of 1999 between india and pakistan, it was difficult to judge from an international perspective. Who was right and who was wrong. So India show a lot of restraint by not crossing the loc.
It showed the international public that it was a defensive war.  Pakistani soldier had instruded  in the Indian territory, we want to push them out and we are not interested in crossing the LOC and carrying or bombing in Pakistan.  simply a war to protect our country.
Doing this was a major diplomatic victory for India within next few weeks the other country like European union and USA all of them supported India in this Kargil war.
The US President Bill Clinton pressured Nawaz Sharif to  withdraw the Pakistani soldiers.
the entire world could see that India was in the right and Pakistan was in wrong.
